The benefits are vital if you want your copywriting to work.

Why?

Well, for starters, without them, you’ll just be creating an unexpected marketing campaign that will fall flat on its face and your customers will want more if they want to convince them to open their wallets and buy it.

The audience you are writing for wants to know why they should buy from you.

They want to know why your product has improved their lives.

They want to know how this will solve their problem.

They want to know how you will meet their needs.

get the picture?

They don’t want complex messages that they have to decode; They want simple phrases that show them what works for them.

Apple is a good example of this.

The company sells a lot of iPods, iPhones, and iPads because it clearly shows how its products simplify the lives of its customers.

Ads show how easy it is to use (counter the “new technology!” response) by showing real people using it.

They are offered as “AWESOME” – along with the easy to use/ease of use message makes buying one a no-brainer.

How to be like Apple

Well, that’s great, but how do you replicate it in your marketing?

Maybe you don’t have the same size marketing budget as Apple, so you can forget about the amazing ads and instant “quality” recognition of the brand, but all is not lost.

All you have to do is study your customers and decide what problem your product solves and how it fits into their lifestyle.

This will create a reason to buy.

Then all you have to do is create a targeted sales message to your customers that focuses on why they need your product.

Think of your headline.

What is the main factor that will make someone buy your product?

Then use that as a basis for that.

Using the story format is a great way to explain to your customer what your product will do. Let your product inspire ideas, but the story should always focus on your customer.

Think:

  • What do they value?

  • How should you talk to them (tone of voice)

  • what’s your opinion about this subject?

  • What is the main benefit?

  • Who gets your message (think about the demographics of your audience)

If you want to create powerful marketing messages like Apple, focus on the needs and wants of your customers.
